Why does my YouTube subscriptions feed run out so fast?

Last reviewed: October 21, 2026 · Markdown version

Because the Subscriptions feed is a list of recent uploads, not an archive, and YouTube admits that busy channels push older videos out of it. The subscribe page describes the feed as showing “any recently uploaded videos from your subscriptions” (YouTube Help: Subscribe to YouTube channels (Android), read 21 October 2026). A creator help page goes further: “If channels you're subscribed to post often, it's possible that older videos will not show in the Subscriptions feed” (YouTube Help: Check your recent subscribers, read 21 October 2026). Neither page says how many days or videos “recent” covers, so the end of the scroll is set by YouTube, not by you.

1. Most of your list may be posting nothing

A feed of the newest videos only grows when channels upload. YouTube's site tour describes it as “the newest videos from only the channels you're subscribed to” (YouTube Help: Find your way around YouTube (computer), read 21 October 2026). Three hundred subscriptions where two hundred have gone quiet behave like a hundred. Those quiet names stay in your channel list and add nothing below the fold; what people mean by a dead channel covers how that happens.

2. A few busy channels crowd the window

The same creator page says the feed can drop older videos when channels “post often”, and it explains the viewer side too: “If you're subscribed to many channels, it’s easy to miss something” (YouTube Help: Check your recent subscribers, read 21 October 2026). So the feed can feel short and full at once, because a handful of channels fill the slots that older uploads from slower ones used to occupy. The numbers behind that are on why one channel floods my feed.

3. Some subscriptions never reach the feed

Two documented cases add nothing however long you scroll:

  • Topic channels. Subscribing to an artist's auto-generated Topic channel “will add the topic channel to your subscriptions list, but will not add any videos to your subscriptions feed” (YouTube Help: Find music from artists you like, read 21 October 2026). More on what Topic channels are.
  • Uploads the creator held back. When uploading, a creator can uncheck “Publish to subscriptions feed and notify subscribers”, and then “Subscribers won’t get notifications or see your upload in their Subscription feed” (YouTube Help: Skip sending upload notifications, read 21 October 2026).

4. A category filter is switched on

In the iPhone app, YouTube puts categories along the top of the Subscriptions page, and “To filter your subscriptions, select any of the categories at the top, and your page will change accordingly” (YouTube Help: Subscribe to YouTube channels (iPhone), read 21 October 2026). A category left selected shows only part of the feed, so if the page looks thin, check whether one is still picked.

5. Home is the shorter list, not the feed

Home is a mix chosen for you. YouTube says “You’re not guaranteed to see all videos from your subscriptions on the Home tab, but you can find a complete list in the Subscriptions feed” (YouTube Help: Check your recent subscribers, read 21 October 2026). That “complete list” sits beside the same page's warning about older videos from busy channels, so read it as complete for recent uploads. If particular videos are missing rather than the feed being short, the missing-videos checklist is the better page.

Seeing which channels still post

Causes 1 and 2 come down to who is uploading and how often, which YouTube's channel list does not show. Adinand Channel Sorter shows it: sign in with Google and it marks which channels have gone quiet (by default, no upload in 60 days) and which flood your feed (21 or more uploads a week), from their real upload history, on your device. It does not lengthen YouTube's feed, change what it holds or replace it; it tells you which subscriptions are doing the filling. It works on iPhone and Android, and is an independent tool with no affiliation to YouTube.
