Can one Google account have more than one YouTube channel?

Last reviewed: October 22, 2026 · Markdown version

Yes. YouTube says “You can manage up to 100 channels from one Google Account,” and in the same breath that “On YouTube, you can only use one channel at a time” (YouTube Help: Switch between channels on a Google Account, read 22 October 2026). Extra channels are made through Brand Accounts, which YouTube sets up for you as part of creating the channel, so there is no second email address or password to keep.

Two kinds of channel

YouTube's channel-creation page splits them by who can run them (YouTube Help: Create a YouTube channel, read 22 October 2026):

  • A personal channel is “a channel that only you can manage”.
  • A channel with a business or other name is “a channel that can have more than one manager or owner”. The page adds that you can connect a channel to a Brand Account “if you want to use a different name on YouTube than your Google Account.”

Brand Accounts are less separate than the name suggests. YouTube's Brand Account page says “You and others can jointly manage a Brand Account through your own Google Accounts. You won’t need a separate username or password,” and that accounts created after 4 August 2021 “can only be linked to YouTube channels” (YouTube Help: Manage your Brand Account, read 22 October 2026).

Making the second channel

The steps on the creation page, for a channel under a different name (YouTube Help: Create a YouTube channel, read 22 October 2026):

  1. Sign in to YouTube on a computer or the mobile site.
  2. Go to your channel list.
  3. Click Create a new channel, or pick a Brand Account you already manage.
  4. Choose a profile picture, name and handle.
  5. Click Create channel. YouTube's wording: “This creates a new Brand Account.”

Two limits sit in the same instructions. A Brand Account that already has a channel cannot get a second one (“If the Brand Account already has a channel, you can't create a new one”), and anyone on a supervised account “may not be able to create a channel”. You also do not need a channel just to follow people: the page opens by saying you can “subscribe to channels with a Google Account”, and that a channel is what you need to upload, comment or make playlists.

Moving between them

On a computer: in the top right corner of youtube.com, click your profile picture, click Switch account, then click the one you want. YouTube's tip for knowing where you are: “You can always check the name and icon in the top right corner to confirm what channel you're currently using” (YouTube Help: Switch between channels on a Google Account, read 22 October 2026). If a channel linked to a Brand Account is missing from that list, the same page gives the reason: “the Google Account you're currently signed in to isn't listed as a manager of that channel's Brand Account.”

Do subscriptions follow you from one channel to the next?

The switching page and the creation page do not say. Neither one describes whether the channels you follow on one channel appear on another, or whether subscribing on one affects the rest (YouTube Help: Switch between channels on a Google Account, read 22 October 2026). YouTube's developer reference points one way without settling it: it describes a subscription's channelId field as “The ID that YouTube uses to uniquely identify the subscriber's channel” (YouTube Data API reference: Subscriptions, read 22 October 2026). Our reading: a subscription is recorded against a channel, so each channel would carry its own list; the viewer help never says that in plain words. What the switching page does establish is that only one channel is active at a time, so the quick test is your own: switch, open youtube.com/feed/channels on each channel, and compare. If you have just switched and your usual list looks wrong, why can't I see my subscriptions? covers that case and the other common ones.

People do use a second channel as a way to split interests, and YouTube does not present it as an organising tool. The trade-offs of that approach are on our page about organising subscriptions.
