# How do I move my YouTube subscriptions into NewPipe? — Adinand Channel Sorter

**Export only your subscriptions from Google Takeout, then hand the .zip to NewPipe through Import / Export on its subscriptions page.** NewPipe's own tutorial starts there: “On the subscriptions page, tap on Import / Export to get started” (*NewPipe FAQ: Import / Export Subscriptions and NewPipe data*, read 21 October 2026 — https://newpipe.net/FAQ/tutorials/import-export-data/). Everything below about NewPipe comes from NewPipe's own pages; everything about Takeout comes from Google's.

## The steps, as NewPipe gives them

From the NewPipe tutorial (*NewPipe FAQ: Import / Export Subscriptions and NewPipe data*, read 21 October 2026 — https://newpipe.net/FAQ/tutorials/import-export-data/):

1. Go to the Google Takeout manager and log in if asked.
2. Click “All YouTube data included”, then “Deselect all”, then select only “subscriptions” and click “OK”.
3. Click “Next step”, then “Create export”.
4. Click “Download” once it appears.
5. In NewPipe, tap “Import from > YouTube”, hit “import file” at the bottom of the screen and select the .zip file.

## The Takeout half, in Google's words

Google's help describes the same trimming more loosely: “If you only want to download some of your data from a product, you may have the option to select a button like All data included” and then untick the rest (*Google Account Help: How to download your Google data*, read 21 October 2026 — https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/3024190?hl=en). Three details from that page matter here:

- **It can take a while.** The link arrives by email, which “could take from a few minutes to a few days”, though “Most people get the link to their archive the same day”.
- **Your account is untouched.** Downloading “doesn’t delete it from Google’s servers”, so the subscriptions stay on YouTube as well.
- **Google suggests a computer** for downloading and viewing exports. NewPipe runs on Android, so plan to move the .zip to the phone, or download it there if that works for you.

Which parts a YouTube archive holds is on [what is in a YouTube Takeout export](https://channelsorter.com/answers/what-is-in-a-youtube-takeout-export/).

## If the .zip will not import

NewPipe's release notes for version 0.21.10 record that “Google changed the way it exports subscriptions from YouTube, rendering the previous import into NewPipe non-functional”, and that the fix means “You can now import your downloaded CSV file, or even the ZIP file that contains that CSV, directly into NewPipe!” (*NewPipe blog: NewPipe 0.21.10 released*, read 21 October 2026 — https://newpipe.net/blog/pinned/release/newpipe-0.21.10-released/). So the CSV inside the archive is a second thing to try. NewPipe's home page lists “Fixed bugs with importing subscriptions” among the current release highlights (*NewPipe: a free YouTube client*, read 21 October 2026 — https://newpipe.net/); an old version is worth updating before you retry.

## Where the list lives afterwards

NewPipe describes these as local: its home page says you can “Easily import and export your local subscriptions from other devices” and “We store everything offline on your device” (*NewPipe: a free YouTube client*, read 21 October 2026 — https://newpipe.net/). Its pages do not describe sending subscriptions back to a YouTube account, so treat the import as a copy that lives in the app on that phone.

To keep that copy safe or move it to another phone, the tutorial offers an export: “This allows you to create a JSON file, of your YouTube/SoundCloud subscriptions”. Restoring one carries a warning worth heeding: “This will override your current subscriptions.” The fuller database export takes subscriptions, history if you enabled it, local playlists and settings, and importing it “will override your current app database and cannot be undone” (*NewPipe FAQ: Import / Export Subscriptions and NewPipe data*, read 21 October 2026 — https://newpipe.net/FAQ/tutorials/import-export-data/).

## Getting NewPipe

NewPipe's site lists “Android 6+” and points to F-Droid, plus its own F-Droid repository for faster updates (*NewPipe: a free YouTube client*, read 21 October 2026 — https://newpipe.net/). That page is the place to check before installing from anywhere else.
