Can I hide videos I have already watched on YouTube?

Not with one switch. YouTube's help documents no setting that hides every video you have watched; it gives you per-video tools instead. The page on tuning recommendations lists what you can do, and a "hide watched" option is not among them (YouTube Help: Manage your recommendations & search results, read 20 October 2026). What it does offer is feedback on a single video, history controls, and playlist clean-up, each covered below with its limits.
On Home and the Up next list: mark it as already watched
The closest documented tool is the Not interested menu. On a computer, YouTube's steps are: click More next to the video's title, click Not interested, then Tell us why, where one of the answers is “I’ve already watched the video” (YouTube Help: Manage your recommendations & search results, read 20 October 2026). On a TV, the same reason appears after you press and hold the select button on the remote.
Two things to know before relying on it:
- It is feedback, not a filter. YouTube says this kind of feedback “may be used to tune your recommendations”. The page does not promise the video, or others you have watched, will never come back.
- It can be undone. Your “Not interested” answers are stored in My Activity under Other Google activity, as YouTube 'Not interested' feedback, and can be deleted there. If you overdo it, undoing Not interested walks through the reset.
In your Subscriptions feed: no documented control
The Subscriptions feed is described only as a list that “will show any recently uploaded videos from your subscriptions” (YouTube Help: Subscribe to YouTube channels (Android), read 20 October 2026). That page names no way to drop watched videos from it, and the recommendations page above is about Home and Watch Next, not this feed. So a video you have seen stays in the feed until newer uploads push it down. If the feed is crowded rather than stale, why one channel floods the feed is the more useful read.
In Watch later: one video at a time
YouTube's Android steps take videos out of Watch later singly: open your profile picture to reach the You tab, select Watch later under Playlists, tap More next to the video and choose Remove from Watch later (YouTube Help: Add & remove videos from Watch later (Android), read 20 October 2026). The computer version is the same idea, from You in the Guide (YouTube Help: Add & remove videos from Watch later (computer), read 20 October 2026). Neither page describes a button that removes only the watched ones, so if you have seen one elsewhere, it is undocumented and may change. Clearing the rest of your library is covered on deleting videos from your YouTube library.
Deleting history does the opposite of hiding
A common guess is that clearing watch history will make watched videos disappear. YouTube's description points the other way. History is what lets YouTube know what you have seen: “If you delete some or all of your watch history, YouTube won’t base future video recommendations on that content” (YouTube Help: View, delete, or turn on or off watch history (computer), read 20 October 2026). And with history off, “Any videos that you watch while history is turned off won't show up in your history.”
The page does not say whether YouTube then shows those videos to you again. Our reading: keeping history on is the better bet if you want fewer repeats, because it is the only record YouTube's help describes of what you have already watched. Removing one video from history (the cross next to it in Manage history) is the per-video version, and the bulk DELETE carries a warning: it “will also delete your search history from the selected time frame” (same watch-history page).
If you want Home to start over rather than skip a few videos, resetting YouTube recommendations covers what a full clear does.
Narrowing what you see in the first place
Filters do not know what you have watched, but they can cut the list down. Search filters (upload date, type) and the topic chips on Home are set out on putting filters on YouTube, and why your recommendations repeat looks at the other side of the same complaint.
