# Can you hide a channel on YouTube? — Adinand Channel Sorter

**You can hide your own channel; YouTube documents that step by step. For somebody else's channel there is no hide button, only ways to see less of it.** The phrase gets used for three different jobs, and each one has a different answer. Find yours below.

## Someone else's channel, on your Home page

The closest thing to a hide is **Don't recommend channel**, chosen from the **More** menu beside one of that channel's videos, Shorts or posts on pages such as Home (*YouTube Help: Manage your recommendations & search results*, read 10 October 2026 — https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6342839?hl=en). It is feedback rather than a wall: the same page says it “may be used to tune your recommendations”. The full comparison with YouTube's real Block, which is about comments and chat, is on [our page about blocking a channel](https://channelsorter.com/answers/block-a-channel-on-youtube/). If you hid one by mistake, [undoing it](https://channelsorter.com/answers/undo-not-interested-or-dont-recommend-channel-on-youtube/) is all-or-nothing.

## A channel you follow, in your Subscriptions feed

**YouTube's subscriptions help describes no way to keep a subscription and hide its uploads from the feed.** It ties the two together: “Once you subscribe to a channel, any new videos it publishes will show up in your Subscriptions feed” (*YouTube Help: Subscribe to YouTube channels*, read 10 October 2026 — https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/4489286?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid).

The notification bell is not a mute for the feed, either. The same page treats them as two separate things under the heading “Difference between Notifications and Subscriptions Feed”: the feed “will show any recently uploaded videos from your subscriptions”, while notifications “can tell you when there are new videos”. Turning a channel's bell down changes the second and leaves the first alone.

That leaves unsubscribing as the documented route, from one of the channel's videos; [how to unsubscribe from a YouTube channel](https://channelsorter.com/answers/unsubscribe-from-a-youtube-channel/) has the steps for each device.

When it is not one channel but a list of them crowding the feed, [Adinand Channel Sorter](https://channelsorter.com/) helps with the choosing: it shows which channels you follow have gone quiet or flood your feed, and you can unsubscribe from the ones you no longer watch without leaving the app. You approve every removal, it never removes anything automatically, and it shows you exactly what will be removed first. It has no hide either: the one change it makes on your YouTube account is the unsubscribe you confirm. The free way is always there: open any channel in YouTube and do it yourself, unlimited and never metered. It is an independent app, not affiliated with YouTube in any way.

## Your own channel

This is the meaning YouTube has a page for. Hiding is temporary and reversible: “Hiding your channel will make channel name, videos, likes, subscriptions, and subscribers private” (*YouTube Help: Delete or hide your YouTube channel*, read 10 October 2026 — https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/55759?hl=en). The steps on that page:

1. Sign in to **YouTube Studio**.
2. In the left sidebar choose **Settings**, then **Channel**, then **Advanced settings**.
3. At the bottom choose **Remove YouTube Content**; you may be asked to sign in again.
4. Choose **I want to hide my channel**, tick the boxes confirming what will be hidden, then **Hide my channel**.

Two warnings from the same page. View counts “may be inaccurate” while the channel is hidden, and after you bring it back “it can take up to a week for these counts to update.” And the option beside it on that screen is the permanent one: deleting removes “videos, comments, messages, playlists, and history”, and the page notes “you can’t currently delete a channel on mobile devices.”

## Finding and unhiding a hidden channel

A hidden channel announces itself in Studio. YouTube's re-enable page says you may see “Your YouTube channel has content but has been disabled” on your Content page, and that while it is hidden “You can still watch, like, and subscribe, and that activity will be fully private” (*YouTube Help: Re-enable hidden channel*, read 10 October 2026 — https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2972692?hl=en).

To bring it back, the page says to sign in, go to create a channel and fill out the form, which “will restore your YouTube channel”. One trap it spells out: do not click “To use a business or other name, click here”, because that creates a new channel instead. For a Brand Account the route is your profile picture, then **Settings**, **Account** and **Add or manage your channel(s)**: select the hidden channel and click OK when asked to create one.

The re-enable page says that while a channel is hidden its “videos and other content are currently not viewable to others”. What a visitor actually gets at the channel's address is described on neither page, so we will not guess.

If all you want private is the list of channels you follow, hiding the whole channel is far more than you need; [making your subscriptions private](https://channelsorter.com/answers/make-youtube-subscriptions-private/) is a single switch.
